How do I make AI videos for YouTube Shorts?
Render a vertical 9:16 clip of an original character, post it as a clean file with no other app's interface on it, and use YouTube's altered-or-synthetic disclosure if it looks realistic[1]. Making the video is the same as for TikTok; what differs on Shorts is how YouTube judges originality and how far the monetisation bar is.
Making the clip
- Fix one original character with a reference image and a written description, and reuse both in every Short.
- Write a timed prompt: each beat gets a time range, one action and an exact quoted line. The Seedance prompting field guide has the structure, and the video prompt builder is free with no login.
- Render at 9:16. Seedance 2.0 makes 4 to 15 seconds per clip at ratios including 9:16[4], and Veo 3.1 renders 9:16 at up to 4k[5].
- Join clips from the last frame of the previous one if you need more than one render; see How to make AI videos longer.
- Upload as a Short and answer the disclosure question honestly.
Checked 2026-10-18. We could not verify YouTube's current maximum Shorts length or recommended upload resolution on an official page. Our own Shorts are 30 to 82 seconds, vertical, and were accepted as Shorts.
Do not post a TikTok-looking file to Shorts
This is the lesson that cost us the most views. We made our livestream-format shorts with a fake live-chat overlay styled like TikTok Live: scrolling comments, viewer count, hearts. On Shorts those uploads sat at 0 to 159 views, even though they were public and Shorts-eligible. Our working theory is that YouTube reads a Short that looks like another platform's interface as a repost. Since 2026-10-15 we post the same videos without the overlay everywhere. That is one account's result, not a rule, but it costs nothing to avoid: post a clean render, and never upload a file with another app's watermark or UI burned in.
The written policy points the same way. YouTube's inauthentic-content policy refuses monetisation for AI content made from generic templates that looks mass-produced, and for videos that stitch unrelated AI clips together to shock[3].
Disclosure and monetisation
Disclose realistic AI content, such as a photoreal person in a scene that never happened; clearly unrealistic animation does not require it[1]. YouTube says the disclosure alone does not limit a video's audience or its eligibility to earn money[1]. Full detail: Do I have to disclose AI-generated videos on YouTube?.
AI Shorts can be monetised, but the bar is high. The YouTube Partner Program needs 1,000 subscribers plus either 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days or 4,000 long-form watch hours in 12 months[2], and Shorts Feed views do not count toward watch hours[2]. YouTube explicitly allows AI used to visualise an original character and story, and recurring-character series where each episode has its own storyline[3]. What a Short costs to make
On 2026-10-16, Atlas Cloud's price endpoint quoted our account $0.87 for a 15-second Seedance 2.0 Fast clip at 720p and $8.90 for 15 seconds of Seedance 2.5 at 1080p. A 30-second Short on 2.0 Fast is two of those clips. Free tools exist too; see the free AI video generators compared.
Where Cast fits
- Short vertical character clips with no interface or watermark burned in: Cast does not add a visible watermark, so the file is clean for Shorts.
- Testing a Shorts idea cheaply: the first 5-second video is free, and a 10-second Standard video is 99 credits after that.
Where it does not:
- Long-form YouTube videos or episodes: Cast clips are 5, 10 and 15 seconds; Katechon Arc (https://arc.katechon.technology/) makes multi-episode dramas.
- Uploading to YouTube for you: Cast has no publishing; you download and post.
- Narrated explainers from your own voice recording: Cast does not take audio uploads.
People also ask
- Can AI Shorts be monetised?
- Yes, through the YouTube Partner Program, if the channel meets the thresholds (1,000 subscribers plus 10 million Shorts views in 90 days, or 4,000 watch hours)[2] and the content is not mass-produced[3].
- Do I need to disclose AI on Shorts?
- Only for realistic AI or altered content; clearly unrealistic content does not require it[1].
- Can I repost my TikTok AI videos to Shorts?
- Post the clean render, not the TikTok download. In our posting, Shorts with another platform's UI on them barely got views.
- What is the best free AI tool for Shorts?
- It depends on your character and style; most free tiers give daily or one-time credits, and several add a watermark. Our comparison is in best free AI video generator.
