Is there a free AI avatar video generator?
Yes: Synthesia's Basic plan is free with 10 minutes of video a month[1], and HeyGen's Free plan gives 3 videos a month of up to 1 minute[3]. Both mark free videos with a watermark[1][7], so they are fine for drafts and personal posts but not for client work.
Free avatar plans, side by side
An avatar video generator turns a script into a presenter speaking it: a stock avatar, a photo avatar or a digital copy of you. These are the free allowances each company states, as of 2026-10-18.
| Tool | Free allowance | Watermark on free |
|---|---|---|
| Synthesia Basic [1] | 10 minutes of video and 500 credits a month, no card | Yes |
| HeyGen Free [3] | 3 videos a month, up to 1 minute each, no card | Yes, removal needs a paid plan |
| Vidnoz Free [8] | Up to 3 minutes per video, 720p export | We could not verify |
| Captions Free [9] | 60 to 200 lifetime credits | We could not verify on the pricing page |
| Hedra Free [11] | Clips capped at 20 seconds, per its in-app plan copy | Yes |
| D-ID trial [12] | Free trial after creating an account | Yes, full-screen on trial |
HeyGen's watermark rule is from its help center[7]; D-ID's is from its FAQ[13]. Kling says avatar generation is credit-based and can be tried with free or promotional credits, without stating an amount[15].
What the free limits mean in practice
- Minutes vs videos. Synthesia counts minutes; HeyGen counts videos. If you make many short clips, a per-video cap runs out first. D-ID rounds every video up to the nearest 15 seconds when it deducts minutes[14], so many 5-second clips cost more than they look.
- Credits do not roll over. HeyGen says unused credits do not carry over after you cancel[5], and D-ID says unused minutes are void at renewal[14].
- Your own avatar can cost extra. HeyGen lists unlimited photo avatars on its paid Creator and Pro plans[4]. For digital twins, see can I make an AI avatar of myself.
- Watermarks matter on social. A visible logo tells viewers the clip came from a free tool. If the video is for a client or a brand, plan on one paid month.
Can you use free avatar videos commercially?
It depends on the plan, and many pricing pages do not say. Hedra's in-app plan copy says its Free plan has no commercial use[11]. HeyGen's pricing page lists commercial terms as an Enterprise feature and does not spell out rights for other plans[6]. Captions says its avatars can be used in commercial content without tying that to a plan on the page we read[10]. We could not verify Synthesia's commercial terms for its free Basic plan. Avatar presenter or character video?
Avatar tools are built for a person reading a script to camera: training, explainers, sales messages. If you want a character doing something in a scene, such as dancing, reacting or walking into a room, a character video is the better fit. Talking avatar or character video compares the two, and AI influencer video generator covers recurring characters for social.
Where Cast fits
- You want a short vertical clip of a character acting in a scene rather than a presenter reading a script: one line of text, first 5-second video free with no sign-up.
- You want no account and no visible watermark on a test clip: Cast adds no watermark of its own.
- You want the free Malfoid & Friends characters (Malfoid, Thea and Odette) or a character you describe in a sentence.
Where it does not:
- Script-to-presenter videos of a minute or more. Cast clips are 5, 10 and 15 seconds.
- An avatar made from your own photo or video. Cast characters are drawn from a text description.
- Lip sync to your own uploaded voice, or real-time avatars.
People also ask
- Which free AI avatar generator gives the most video?
- On paper, Synthesia's free Basic plan with 10 minutes a month[1]. Vidnoz allows up to 3 minutes per video on its Free plan[8], but we could not verify how many videos that covers.
- Do free avatar videos have a watermark?
- Usually. Synthesia and HeyGen say free videos are watermarked, and so does Hedra's in-app plan copy[1][7][11].
- Do I need a credit card for a free avatar plan?
- Not for Synthesia or HeyGen, which both say no card is required[2][3]. You still need an account.
- Is there a free avatar generator with no sign-up?
- We could not verify one as of 2026-10-18. Every avatar tool we checked asks you to create an account before rendering or downloading.
