What prompt makes a good AI dance video?
Attach the song as an audio reference and say every move lands on its beat, lock the camera with "one uninterrupted take, full body, no cuts", then write a timeline that follows the song's sections with two or three named moves per beat. For groups, give each dancer a position, their own reference image and a signature move.
A dance prompt that worked
This is trimmed from the prompt behind Pure Gold, a three-girl dance we published:
@Audio1: The song they dance to. It plays from the start; every move lands on its beat and they lip-sync its lyrics. One uninterrupted take through the front camera of the phone propped on goblets at the end of the table, all three full body, the only viewpoint, no cuts, no camera movement. Tight, perfectly synchronised, sassy choreography exactly on the beat of @Audio1: hand rolls, shoulder pops, hip-hip, pointing at the lens, body rolls, a hair flip passed down the line. 3-10s: The song starts and all three hit the routine in perfect sync on the beat: hand roll, shoulder pop, hip-hip, point at the lens, then a hair flip that ripples down the line one girl after another. 10-17s: On one count Thea goes left while the other two go right. Malfoid freezes mid-move and turns her head slowly to give Thea a death stare.
Note the gag at 10-17s. A dance that only dances is forgettable; one beat where something goes wrong gives viewers a reason to rewatch.
How to sync to music
- Pass the song as an audio reference (@Audio1) and write "every move lands on its beat". In our Seedance renders, moves and lip-sync then followed the track.
- Check the model's audio rules. On Seedance 2.0 reference audio must go with at least one image or video, while Seedance 2.5 accepts audio-only reference[1]. On 2.0 Fast we also kept reference audio to 15 seconds or less.
- Delete any "no background music" line from your avoid list. It fights the audio reference.
- Leave two or three seconds before the music if a dancer has a spoken line. Pure Gold starts with "Silence before the music" and a quoted line at 0-2.5s.
- Fix the audio after. The model re-sings the song instead of passing it through: in our takes it ran about 0.3 to 0.4 seconds late, and some takes dropped the music. We laid the original track back over the picture, delayed 0.35 s, and kept the model's audio only where someone speaks.
How to describe the moves
- Name real moves, not adjectives: hair flip, body roll, shoulder pop, hip sway, point at the lens, slow spin, freeze. "Dances energetically" gives generic bouncing.
- Tie moves to song sections: intro, vocals start, drop, final hook. "On the beat drop she..." works better than a time alone.
- Keep the full body in frame by saying so, and put the camera low or at hip height. A locked-off frame reads as a real TikTok dance; a moving camera hides the footwork.
- End on a pose and a look into the lens, or a gag.
How to keep three dancers apart
In group shots, faces average out and skin tones drift unless you pin each person down. What fixed it for us in Own It:
- One reference image per dancer (@Image2: Thea's face, @Image3: Odette's face), plus an opening frame showing all three.
- A position for each: middle, left, right. Repeat it whenever they move.
- A distinct hair silhouette for each: platinum ponytail, long straight black hair, dark curls.
- A signature move for each in the freestyle beat: a ponytail whip, a slow body roll, a deadpan pop-and-lock.
- Past 15 seconds, render two halves and start the second from the last frame of the first.
The Seedance guide has the full audio and chaining notes, and the prompt builder has "Dance to a song" and "Walk-in trend" formats that add the @Audio1 line for you.
Where Cast fits
- Quick dance clips with up to 3 characters in one video, using the free Malfoid & Friends pack; Cast's model generates the sound with the picture.
- Trying a choreography idea in 5, 10 and 15 seconds before building a full music video elsewhere.
Where it does not:
- Dancing to your own song file: Cast does not take uploaded audio, so it cannot sync to a specific track.
- 30-second routines in one take: Cast clips stop at 15 seconds.
- Making a photo of yourself or a friend dance: Cast has no photo upload.
People also ask
- Can an AI dance video sync to my song?
- Yes, on models that take an audio reference, such as Seedance[1]. Expect to re-lay the original track afterwards; in our takes the model's own audio ran slightly late. See can Seedance dance to my song.
- Why does my AI dancer move off the beat?
- Usually no audio reference was attached, or the prompt describes moves without tying them to the beat. Say "every move lands on its beat" and name the song section for each move.
- Can I make an AI dance video of a baby or a child?
- Not one you can post on TikTok, which bans AI content showing the likeness of anyone under 18[2]. Use adult or non-human original characters.
- What camera works best for dance?
- A locked-off frame, full body, low or at hip height, with "no cuts". Moving cameras hide footwork and add invented cuts.
