Can Seedance make a character dance to my song?
Yes. Attach the song as an audio reference, add a picture of the character, and say in the prompt that every move lands on the beat; Seedance then dances and lip-syncs to the track. Expect the model to re-sing the song slightly late, so for a clean result lay the original audio back over the video afterwards.
How to add a song
- Trim the song to the clip. Seedance 2.0 makes 4 to 15 seconds and 2.5 makes 4 to 30 seconds per generation[1] [2]. In our 2.0 Fast jobs the reference audio had to total 15 seconds or less.
- Attach a picture too on 2.0. The 2.0 series needs an image or video alongside reference audio; 2.5 accepts audio on its own[2]. A character picture is what keeps the dancer on-model anyway.
- Label it in the prompt: "@Audio1: the song. It plays from the start; every move lands on its beat and her lips sync to its lyrics."
- Describe the moves and the beat changes in a timestamped timeline: what happens on the intro, the drop and the last beat.
- Delete "no background music" from your avoid list. It fights the audio reference.
This is the start of the timeline behind Look up, a 30-second Seedance 2.5 dance with an original song:
0-3s: Over the song's intro she steps back into place, bored, and drawls at the lens: "Once. Since you begged." 3-13s: The vocals start and she snaps into the dance with a slow hair flip on the first beat, lip-syncing "look up, look up". 13-23s: On the beat drop she flicks her wand at the sky and the whole twilight sky behind her bursts into glittering emerald sparkles; she hits sharp, powerful moves on every beat.
Will the lip sync match?
Mostly, with one catch. The model does not pass your song through; it generates the audio again. In our takes the re-sung track ran about 0.3 to 0.4 seconds late, and some takes kept only the dialogue and dropped the music. Our fix: lay the original track back over the picture, delayed by 0.35 seconds so it matches the moves and lips, and keep the model's own audio only where the character speaks.
If the character has a spoken line, leave two or three seconds of silence before the music. In Pure gold the song starts at 3 seconds so the opening line lands.
How long can the song be?
- Up to 15 seconds per clip on Seedance 2.0 and 2.0 Fast[1]. For longer, render a second clip from the first clip's last frame with the second half of the song; our 30-second three-girl dance Own It is two 15-second Fast halves, the second started from the first half's last frame.
- Up to 30 seconds in one take on Seedance 2.5[3], which is simpler for a full chorus.
- Several audio clips: 2.0 takes up to 3 and 2.5 up to 10 audio references per generation[2].
Songs and rights
The songs in our videos are original tracks we generated for them. Use music you made or have a licence for. For a group dance, also read keeping two or three characters consistent: faces drift fastest when everyone moves at once.
Where Cast fits
- You want a dance clip of a character without preparing files: Cast can make a character dance from a one-line idea, with the Held camera and Hype vibe suiting dance trends; the soundtrack is whatever the model generates.
- You want to see the format first: the first 5-second video is free with no sign-up.
Where it does not:
- Dancing or lip-syncing to your own song: Cast does not take uploaded audio.
- Full-length music videos: Cast clips are 5 to 15 seconds.
- Dancing videos of yourself or a real person.
People also ask
- How do I add a song to a Seedance video?
- Pass it as an audio reference (@Audio1) alongside a character image, and say in the prompt that every move lands on its beat. On 2.0 the audio needs an image or video with it[2].
- Why is the audio out of sync?
- Seedance re-generates the song rather than passing it through, and in our takes it ran 0.3 to 0.4 seconds late. Replace it with the original track in editing, offset to match.
- Can Seedance make a character sing my lyrics?
- Yes, it lip-syncs to the vocals in the reference. Quote key lyric lines in the timeline so the mouth movement lands on them.
- Can I make a dance video with several characters?
- Yes. We have published three-character dances on both 2.0 Fast and 2.5. Describe each dancer separately and give each a signature move.
