Is there a free AI character video generator?
Yes. Several tools let you make a short character video for free, but each free tier is small: usually one clip, a few seconds, or a daily credit allowance, often with a watermark. The real choice is whether you start from a picture of the character or from a text description.
Two ways to get a character on screen
Character video tools split into two camps, and the camp decides what you need before you start.
- Start from a picture. You upload an image of the character, and the model animates it or uses it as a reference. Making a brand-new character is rarely part of the free allowance. In Cast, the free video covers a premade character from the Malfoid & Friends pack (Malfoid, Thea and Odette); drawing your own character costs 15 credits.
How long free character videos are
Short. Seedance 2.0, one of Dreamina's models and the family behind Cast's Standard videos, outputs up to 15 seconds per generation[12]. Hedra's plan copy caps Free videos at 20 seconds[13]. Cast's free video is 5 seconds; paid videos run 5, 10 and 15 seconds. Longer pieces are made by chaining clips, which multiplies the cost.
Using your own character, and the rules on real faces
An original character (an OC, a mascot, a drawing) works in every tool above. Real people are a different matter. BytePlus does not accept directly uploaded reference images that contain real human faces for Seedance 2.5 and 2.0[14], Character.AI blocks AvatarFX videos made from photos of minors and notable figures[9], and TikTok does not allow AI content showing the likeness of adult private figures without their permission[15]. Cast does not take photo uploads, so it cannot make a video of a real person.
