Diary Trap

He already reached the page about him. Malfoid catches Leo reading her secret black diary, and he has already reached the page about him.

  1. A page of Malfoid's black diary flares gold in Leo's hands; she rounds a pillar and freezes; he looks up, caught.
    Malfoid: “Which page are you ON? — The one about me.”
  2. Malfoid recovers, sure the diary's charm protects her; Odette, deadpan in the shadows, explains why it opened for him.
    Odette: “Impossible. It only opens for ME. — And whoever you fancy.”

At the cliffhanger: Her diary falls open to a page called Before the Kiss, and Leo has seen it.

Truth Potion

One sip and she confesses everything. Malfoid gulps Thea's truth potion by mistake and confesses everything she feels for Leo, then Thea admits it was only water.

  1. Thea quietly swaps two glowing pink vials on the bench; Malfoid downs hers in one gulp and her eyes flash pink.
    Thea: “That was truth potion, darling.”
  2. Malfoid rounds on her, horrified; Thea leans to her ear and points across the room at Leo.
    Malfoid: “You absolute VIPER. — What do you think of HIM?”

At the cliffhanger: It was only water, so every word was true. And Leo heard all of it.

Jealous

Thea flirts with Leo. Malfoid is fine. Thea flirts with Leo right in front of Malfoid just to prove a point, and Malfoid pretends, very badly, that she doesn't care.

  1. A quill snaps in Malfoid's fist; across the sunlit cloister Thea is draped over Leo, twirling his tie.
    Malfoid: “I'm FINE. — You're SO brave.”
  2. Thea glances back with a warning; Malfoid folds her arms, and her platinum hair starts turning green at the roots.
    Thea: “Careful, darling. Your hair goes green when you're jealous. — I'm not jealous. I'm THRIVING.”

At the cliffhanger: Leo walks straight past Thea, lifts a lock of her green hair and asks her why.

Midnight Dare

Kiss him by midnight or lose the crown. Odette dares Malfoid to kiss Leo before the midnight bell or give up her crown as queen of the school, and she accepts.

  1. As the first bell tolls, Odette lifts the crown off Malfoid's head and sets the dare beneath the great clock.
    Odette: “Excuse ME? — Kiss him before the twelfth bell. Or it's mine.”
  2. Malfoid scoffs, and the bell stops mid-toll as the clock freezes; Odette doesn't blink.
    Malfoid: “Kiss HIM? I'd rather kiss a toad. — The tower stops for liars.”

At the cliffhanger: Leo heard every word. And the bells are still striking.

Locked In

All night in the library. With him. Malfoid gets locked in the old castle library overnight with Leo, and he notices she trembles whenever he steps closer.

  1. She jerks against the heavy library door, glare turning quickly into alarm as the lock clicks from the other side.
    Malfoid: “Open this door. Now.”
  2. He steps into view by the shelves, dry and calm, holding up the useless key with a tiny grin.
    Leo: “You’re trapped with me, apparently.”

At the cliffhanger: A hidden shelf groans open behind them.
