  1. A page of Malfoid's black diary flares gold in Leo's hands; she rounds a pillar and freezes; he looks up, caught.
    Malfoid: “Which page are you ON? — The one about me.”
  2. Malfoid recovers, sure the diary's charm protects her; Odette, deadpan in the shadows, explains why it opened for him.
    Odette: “Impossible. It only opens for ME. — And whoever you fancy.”
  3. Dead silence; students with candles stare at her; Leo closes the diary and holds it out to her.
    Leo: “Relax. I only found the brave part.”
  4. She snatches it back; the diary falls open by itself to a glowing page and Leo reads the title upside down.
    Leo: “It's FICTION. Obviously. — Before the Kiss?”

  4. An inch from his face she can't choose; he pulls a battered notebook of his own from his gown.
